Dive Report: Lake Zurich Terlinden

Diving in Lake Zurich, exciting for anyone who gets involved. If you are used to the variety of colors and the abundance of fish in the Caribbean or the Red Sea, you may think that diving in lakes is "boring". But this is not quite true, you just have to take a closer look. Dives in lakes are often quite different than in the clear bright water of typical dive locations. Dark, exciting, strange. At the Terlinden dive site on Lake Zurich, there is much to discover. According to the Lake Zurich Fishing Commission (as of 2020), the most common fish species in Lake Zurich are whitefish, followed by perch, roach, pike, and burbot, but also crayfish. You should always have a good diving lamp with you, as the water can regularly be very murky. In summer a 5mm wet suit with ice vest is sufficient, in spring and autumn a dry suit is recommended. At about 7.5-12.5m depth lies the thermocline, below which it can get very chilly. Gloves are recommended here for longer dives. At the entrance, the depth goes down towards the middle of the lake about 25m, after which there is a cliff that drops to about 45m. Bonus: There is a parking lot right at the dive site and a restroom next door.

Starting my Journey

I have been diving for more than 15 years now. I love this sport, but what has always bothered me are the logbooks 📖. Paper can be forgotten or lost, templates can no longer be available, often just cumbersome. An evaluation of the data is out of the question. How does my consumption of air change over the years? How did my stamina change? Many questions often do not arise when each dive remains only a snapshot in a logbook and that was it 🤔It was always particularly important to me to stay in touch with my dive buddies. This is better today than it was 15 years ago, but it would still be easier if my dive buddies were directly linked to the respective diving experience. The existing digital solutions have never been able to convince me very much. On the one hand only available offline or online, on the other hand, they lack functionality that I want.So I decided to create an app of my own which is almost complete and will include the following functions in the first release:
